Can be spelled either way, I am told on good authority. With a K is a rarer form, though, apparently.

I'm sure the word is spelt "spondulics", or else I've just bothered to remember how to spell it wrong; but anyway, if you'd put it in "tags" you'd be at the head of the queue for this word on WordPress tags for it by now.

I have just read your "Thanks a Million" anecdote and I must say I have found it very interesting.

I am Spanish and in my country we have a motto "Being grateful shows the good breeding" (This is a rough translation to make it comprehensive). Let's say we do our best to pay attention to detail. Rudeness is everywhere, in all walks of life and people, certainly many persons, have conveniently forgotten how much a small smile, a thank you, a random act of kindness can work wonders, flowing naturally.

Keep up the good work, William. People like you are very much needed!

All the best,

As mentioned before, I do agree, every little bit helps - the wait staff. If you can't afford a proper tip stay at home. You will only be embarrassing yourself.

Wonderful story to illustrate an important point in entertaining. A rule I learned when entertaining in a large house is to never go to bed until it looked like the party never happened. That's lot easier when you have a paid staff to look after things, but if you don't, roll up your sleeves and as they say here in Canada, "get 'er dun!"

I would suggest that the wages for the wait staff do not increase during a recession. The tips should not decrease. These folks depend on tips to pay their bills. If you can't afford a proper tip, don't eat out!

I agree with what you say. A proper handshake is the best way to introduce one's self. What I have a real problem with is friends who find it necessary to kiss you on the lips. Obviously you do that with your spouse, etc., but I find it offensive with friends. The cheeks work great for me.

Dear William,
I heard of you for the first time today whilst listening to a recent LBC Podcast with James Max. I thought you unique and extraordinarily mature for your 19 years. I have scanned your website and feel you could expand it far more than it is at present and you could even become the web's authority on etiquette but it looks superb! Shame about the repeated spelling mistakes ("their" instead of "they're" I noticed in the Paxman piece!)
May you go from strength to strength and very soon earn enough money at this so you don't have to advertise someone's chocolates quite so blatantly!
Many thanks for entertaining me so royally today.
Best wishes,
Lynne.
